I practice highly personable and personalized evidence-based Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine. I see every patient personally and provides a high level of service.
Adult Primary Care and Internal Medicine
I provide Primary Care to a diverse population of patients, many of whom have been with my practice since it opened 30 years ago. My practice combines the the best attributes of an academic and concierge medical practice. Medical Students, Residents and other trainees seek rotations in my clinical practice so don’t be surprised if someone young, smart and with a great career ahead of them sees you along with me. I treat all of the acute and chronic diseases and conditions that General Internists treat and work hard to deliver personal, available and attentive high quality care.
Addiction Medicine
I am an internationally recognized expert in the clinical pharmacology of abused and addictive drugs. I have conducted clinical trials and helped to develop treatments for opiate addiction, alcoholism and stimulant addiction. The treatment of addiction requires both compassion and expertise and I work hard to brings these attributes to my patients. When appropriate I utilize pharmacological interventions such as Suboxone (Buprenorphine). I conducted many of the clinical trials that led to approval of Suboxone by the FDA and was one of the first physicians in the nation to receive approval to utilize this medication. I see many patients with complex overlaps between chronic pain and opiate and other psychoactive drug addictions. I treat both acute alcohol withdrawal and prescribe medications shown to decrease alcohol use. I support all modalities that can decrease alcohol use or lead to sobriety including mutual support networks (AA and SoberGrid), psychotherapy and counseling. I continue to conduct research that bring the latests in treatment advances to my practice.

Payment Information
I accept most major insurance plans but I do not accept HMOs. In general, I can always find a fee structure that works for the patient and my practice.
