About Dr. John Mendelson

I am a Board Certified Internist and an internationally recognized expert in addiction and clinical psychopharmacology. I attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and completed my internship and residency training at Highland Hospital in Oakland. I hold a diversity of staff appointments, professional memberships and have received numerous awards and honors over the course of my career. Here are some highlights:

  • I am a Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF. In this role I teach Medical Students and Residents.
  • I maintain a private practice in San Francisco. I have been at the same location since 1987 and still treat patients who I began seeing 30 years ago.
  • I am a Senior Research Scientist at the Friends Research Institute. In this role I conduct clinical research and have an extensive publication history. Prior to affiliating with Friends I was a Senior Scientist at the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute where I founded and directed the Addiction and Pharmacology Research Laboratory.
  • I am the Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Ria Health, a scalable medical practice treating alcohol addiction through telemedicine with medications, coaching and quantification of alcohol intake.

When I am not working I love riding my bike, making and eating great food and spending time with my incredible family.
